Job Description

Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport and LSU Health Sciences Center – Shreveport has retained Cejka Search to recruit an accomplished physician leader to serve as Chair, Department of Anesthesiology.

The Chair of Anesthesiology exemplifies exceptional leadership, continues the pursuit of clinical and academic excellence, and fosters interdisciplinary management of the departments 24 full-time faculty and staff. The Chair will lead the department with the development and implementation of a dynamic vision for future success while collaborating with the Dean and other Department Chairs in the ongoing evolution and success of the school. The Chair will build upon the excellent foundation of full-time faculty and staff, working collaboratively with a broad range of constituents both internally and externally, and managing and overseeing 32 residents and 2 fellows. 

An innovative and dynamic member of the LSU Health Shreveport Leadership team, The Chair reports directly to the Dean of the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport, and will continue to advance the department in services and faculty growth as the department increases responsibility in healthcare outreach with efforts to be progressively available to all patients. The Chair will collaborate with the leadership of Ochsner Health which manages the primary teaching hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe in partnership with LSU. The department of Anesthesiology is supported by fellowship-trained and highly experienced anesthesiologists in nine areas of specialty including: Airway, Acute Pain, Cardiothoracic, Neuro, Obstetric, Pediatric, Vascular Anesthesia, Chronic Pain, and Intensive Care.

The LSUHSC-Shreveport Department of Anesthesiology is located in the Northwest corner of Louisiana in a tri-state area known as the Ark-La-Tex and serves as a tertiary and quaternary referral center that offers an Anesthesiology Residency Program, Clinical Pain Fellowship and Neuro Anesthesiology Fellowship Program.

The successful candidate will be recognized as an outstanding leader with an excellent track record in clinical care and demonstrate a firm commitment to the education and teaching of residents and medical students. Candidates will hold an MD or DO from an accredited medical school and maintain current board certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology. A distinguished record in Anesthesiology, eligibility for an unrestricted Louisiana medical license and qualify for an academic appointment at the rank of Professor are required.
