Job Description

The Department of Medicine of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University announce an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished leader in academic medicine to serve as Chief of Gastroenterology.  Brown Medicine is one of the largest nonprofit, academic, multi-specialty medical groups in Rhode Island that is recognized for its expertise in patient care, teaching, and research in the state.

Reporting to the Chair of Medicine, the Chief of Gastroenterology will provide the strategic leadership, direction, and coordination of administrative, clinical, educational, and research endeavors across the division. The Chief will lead the 11-full time faculty members across four inpatient and outpatient centers, a well-established fellowship program that accepts 3 fellows per year, and the distinguished specialty areas of inflammatory bowel disease, advanced and capsule endoscopy, viral hepatitis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and gastrointestinal malignancies.  Inpatients services are conducted at Rhode Island Hospital, a 700-bed tertiary care and teaching hospital in the Lifespan academic health system, which is the largest teaching hospital of the Alpert Medical School.

The Chief will drive strategic and operational initiatives to support the Department of Medicine’s mission to incorporate expertise in patient care, teaching, and research, providing meaning and purpose to the work and clinical care that sets them apart from all other primary care and internal medicine practices in the state of Rhode Island. Physicians in the Division of Gastroenterology lead the inpatient services at Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, and the Veterans Administration Medical Center and serve a primary role in teaching, training, and mentoring the Brown medical students, residents, and fellows.
