Job Description

The Department of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University and The Heart Center at Nationwide Children’s Hospital seeks an accomplished physician to serve as Chief for the Division of Cardiology and Co-Director of The Heart Center. This is an exceptional opportunity for a nationally recognized physician leader to join one of America’s largest not-for-profit freestanding pediatric health care systems. Reporting jointly to the Department Chair and the Office of the Chief Executive Officer at Nationwide Children’s Hospital the Chief will lead a division with 41 outstanding pediatric cardiologists and an ACGME  accredited fellowship program, with categorical as well as advanced subspecialty training in adult congenital heart disease (ACHD), advanced cardiac imaging, heart failure/transplantation, acute care cardiology and interventional catheterization. The research faculty includes MD and PhD scientists who occupy new, dedicated, state-of-the-art laboratory space on Nationwide Children’s Hospital Campus. The Chief of Cardiology will also partner with the Chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery/Co-Director of The Heart Center, while developing collaborative relationships with Nationwide Children’s Hospital administrative leaders to advance the Center’s strategic plan while embracing the hospital’s One Team values of collaborative teamwork and commitment to health equity.

Annually, the Division of Cardiology performs approximately 450 cardiac surgical cases, 750 catheterization/interventional cases, and see 21,000 outpatient visits including both pediatric and ACHD patients. Programs include comprehensive surgical and catheter-based care, unique regional partnerships across the state of Ohio, seamless transition to their COACH (ACHD) program, a comprehensive single ventricle care team, a growing transplant and mechanical circulatory device program, an exceptional cardiogenetic research program, and a vascular tissue engineering center which all attract national and international patients and trainees. Facilities include a 20-bed dedicated cardiothoracic intensive care unit, a 24-bed acute care cardiology unit, two state-of-the-art hybrid catheterization laboratories, and two cardiac operating suites.

Nationwide Children’s is a full service, acute care, pediatric teaching hospital with 549 licensed beds on-site and the largest neonatal network in the country (130-beds are at off-site facilities). Nationwide Children’s has Level I trauma designation, is an American Burn Association / American College of Surgeons designated Burn Center, a CARF accredited rehabilitation program, and recently opened a state-of-the-art and first of its kind $158M free-standing Behavioral Health Pavilion. The Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital is one of the Top 10 NIH-funded free-standing pediatric research facilities in the United States, with over 165 research-intensive faculty, most of whom are appointed in the Department of Pediatrics.   
The successful candidate will be nationally recognized, with a proven track record of collegiality and excellence in clinical service, teaching and research. Experience in a similar key leadership position within the Division of Pediatric Cardiology and demonstrated success in leading a diverse, complex and well-balanced department to achieve growth, loyalty and quality goals of the institution are essential. Board certification and fellowship training in pediatric cardiology as well as eligibility for a faculty appointment with The Ohio State University College of Medicine at the rank of Associate or full Professor are required.
