Cejka Search has been exclusively retained by University of Chicago (UChicago) to assist in the recruitment of an accomplished Human Resources executive to serve as the Assistant Dean and Executive Director, Human Resources for the largest unit of UChicago, the Biological Sciences Division (BSD).
With primary accountability to the Vice Dean of the BSD, the Assistant Dean and Executive Director, Human Resources (HR) is a critical role to provide strategic and operational leadership and oversight in all aspects of staff HR for the BSD. This role is responsible for building skills and capabilities across the BSD HR team as well as systems and processes and is charged with driving excellence and process improvement initiatives for key areas involving employee relations, leadership development, talent management and succession planning, organizational effectiveness as well as workforce planning and change management. The Assistant Dean and Executive Director, HR will partner with leaders and individuals at all levels to align HR strategies with Divisional priorities while providing customized and practical HR and talent solutions to challenges across a range of HR functions including talent management, organizational design and effectiveness, engagement and culture, diversity and staff compensation.
Within the BSD the HR structure combines a central office within the Office of the Dean and local HR representatives at the local departmental unit level. The central office provides HR strategic leadership and direction including compensation, ER/LR (including performance management and compliance), talent acquisition and talent management/development, workforce analytics and related HR programs for BSD staff employees.

The Biological Sciences Division is a single, unified division that brings together interdisciplinary, world-renowned educational, research and clinical programs in the biological sciences and Pritzker School of Medicine. The Biological Sciences Division includes 135 faculty in 10 basic science departments, over 800 faculty in 13 clinical departments and over 2,400staff members.
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished executive with a depth and breadth of HR leadership experience in a complex, academic, medical or higher education environment. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are required as is the ability to serve as a change champion and build collective excitement for future possibilities. An advanced degree is preferred.
