How do economic, demographic and political forces influence the dynamic course of a physician’s career in an era of change?
At the Southern Medical Association’s “2012 Healthcare Summit,” Lori Schutte explored how changes and trends in the health care landscape impact physician careers and revealed a vision of health care in 2030.
Ms. Schutte’s presentation was based on industry sources and a national survey of 2,633 physicians, The Future Landscape of Physician Careers: Envision 2030.
The survey, to be published in January 2013, reveals the outlook on key topics such as medical group ownership and care teams, physician demographics and the growing burden of medical education debt.
Physicians shared their vision of the practice of medicine in 2030, including how they envision:
- Changes to hospitals and primary care delivery by the year 2030.
- The medical school graduating class of 2030, and what advice they would give them.
- Their prescription to ensure a financially healthy industry in 2030.
